A GRANDMOTHER took a leap of faith to raise money for a local church by jumping out of a plane from nearly three miles up.
Maggie Blaydes, 74, of Plumpton Avenue, Mexborough, took the plunge while strapped to an instructor from an airfield in Lincolnshire, last Wednesday. The grandmother-of-two, who used to work for South Yorkshire Police, plummeted from 15,000 ft but managed to make a safe landing.
She raised more than £2000, which will go towards a fundraising campaign to collect £45,000 to save Brampton Christ Church tower.
She said: “It was an amazing experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Surprisingly I didn’t feel nervous, the instructors make you feel very safe.
“I would even like to do it again, though I don’t think my family would!”
