Yorkshire and Humber MEP Rebecca Taylor is going green by supporting the EU’s stance to dramatically cut plastic bag use across Europe.

The Lib Dem member, is supporting measures agreed by the European Parliament to cut the use of them by 80 percent in five years.

She said that with more than 100 billion carrier bags used every year within the EU, the impact is seen on a daily basis with the number that end up as litter in local areas and in Europe’s seas.

She said: “We see too often the problems caused by discarded plastic bags. The mess caused by them in bushes or pavements make an area look uncared for. Every effort should be made to help reduce the use of new plastic bags and encourage people to reuse and recycle.
