BREAKING NEWS: Woman and child hurt in train crash

A YOUNG girl has been taken to intensive care and a woman was also hurt following a collision between a train and car at a level crossing in a Doncaster village.

British Transport Police (BTP) and other emergency service crews are reportedly at the scene in Misson Springs, following the incident which has led to a cancellation of trains between Doncaster and Lincoln Central.

A woman and young girl are understood to have been taken to hospital - the child was escorted by air ambulance with serious injuries and the woman suffered minor injuries, the Free Press understands.

BTP has tweeted to say officers were also at the scene in Spring Road because there was “a car stuck by a train” at around 12.35pm today.

A BTP spokesman said: “The train, a Lincoln to Doncaster service, is damaged but has remained upright and on the tracks. Passengers have been removed from the train and there are no reports of injuries at this time.

“Officers are working to establish more specifics about the incident about the incident and will provide updates as soon as any further information is available.”

The spokesman added that officers had been assisting with the evacuation of passengers from the train and dealing with a small diesel spillage.

Crews from Harworth and Retford attended and a Specialist Rescue Team from Tuxford.

Replacement buses are being arranged.

Further updates are available on the National Rail Enquiries website.
