A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has died after being hit by a train in Rossington.

The teen was hit by the train at a crossing close to Toad Hole Lane at around 9.25pm last night and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Paramedics from the South Yorkshire Ambulance service also attended but the boy, who is aged 15 and from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The train involved was the 18.15 Kings Cross to Hull Trains service.”

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious. Officers are currently informing the boys next of a kin and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Passengers faced delays of up to 90 minutes as police and paramedics worked on the tracks.

Eye witnesses reported seeing police cars and vans racing down the railway tracks last night following the crash.

The East Coast Trains twitter account posted the following statement this morning: “Apologies to anyone caught up in last night’s disruption caused by the person hit by a train between Doncaster and Retford.”
