Brave dad loses fight with cancer aged 27
THE partner of a popular and well-loved dad who lost his brave battle with cancer has spoken of her heartbreak.
Courageous Nathan Latibeaudiere fought lymphoma for three years, enduring four relapses, before his heart-wrenching death on August 29.
The 27-year-old’s devastated family are raising money in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and already the shocked community of Armthorpe - where Nathan lived - have pledged thousands of pounds in his memory.
Partner Lucy Gardiner said the couple’s five-year-old son Leo is helping her to cope with losing her first love.
“It has left a big void in our lives. He has fought it for the last three years but after four relapses, the last time was just too much for him,” said the 27-year-old of Doncaster Road, Armthorpe.
“Nathan’s beautiful family have been incredible. Everyone is helping each other through it, we’ve all lost someone special.
“Our little five-year-old son Leo is getting me through, he has an idea what has happened. He knows that daddy has gone to heaven.”
Lucy said the tributes left on the Facebook page of Nathan, a plumber and former pupil at The Armthorpe School, just shows “how much everybody loved him”.
Leanne Simms said: “Such sad news..u will be missed by many but will forever live on through ur gorgeous little boy Leo xx”
Matthew Edward Bell added: “I love you pal you’ve gone (to) a better place now don’t worry about Lucy n Leo they will be looked after.”
Nathan first met Lucy back in August 2006 when they were on a night out with friends in Doncaster’s town centre.
“As soon as I met him, I liked him. He was just so nice, friendly and everything just fell into place. We were each other’s first loves,” the mum-of-one added.
A fundraising page has been set up by Nathan’s mum Alison Megahy to thank the work done by Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire and Weston Park hospitals during her son’s treatment.
She wrote: “Nathan has left a huge hole in our lives but he will live on in our hearts forever.”
