A TEENAGE boy swindled elderly residents out of their money after he used a doorstep sob story to gain access to their homes.

The youth, aged about 15, knocked on a number of doors in Edlington and Balby on December 21 claiming news of a family disaster and that he needed money for a taxi.

Police said he then promised that his mother would return the money the next day. But officers believe he pretended to use their phone and has taken money from them.

The boy is described as white, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build with short dark hair. He was reportedly wearing dark coloured clothing.

Contact police with information on 101, quoting incident number 982 of 21 December 2012.
