A COAST to coast bike ride by three Dearnesmen - one of whom had a broken toe - has raised over £1700.

The ride over 260 miles from Southport to Hornsea was undertaken at the end of last year by Pete Dewsbury of Bolton, and Alan and Andy Whiteman, both of Goldthorpe.

Cash raised will go to the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Pete Dewsbury, 59, of Clover Walk, Bolton, said: “We weren’t in the best condition when we did the ride as I had also been diagnosed with a hernia before we went.

“The others had never done anything like that before either, but they managed it despite atrocious weather, as it was pouring with rain for most of the time.”

The men were accompanied by 18-year old Thomas Lonsdale from Leeds.

The men now plan to link with others from their workplace at Leeds railway station, to raise more cash for charity by attempting a three-day event in the Spring.
