Meet the man who will be behind the bar of Epworth’s Mowbray Arms from next week.
Shaun Scalley moves in to the pub on Mowbray Street on Monday, but will open on March 13, with plans for a big welcoming party at the weekend.
Everyone is invited to the official opening night on March 15, when there will be live entertainment and a buffet.
Thirty-year old Shaun, who is moving to Epworth from Harworth, Nottinghamshire, said he “fell in love” with the Mowbray along with the area as soon as he visited.
Most recently, he has managed a Wetherspoons pub at Doncaster, and was previously at a pub in Hereford.
He added: “I love this business. I’m an outgoing person who likes to have a laugh with customers and I’m looking forward to running a real community pub.
“I’ll be working hard on the food side and hope families will come and enjoy meals out.”
Shaun, who will be joined at the pub by his father John, will introduce a three-choice carvery on Sundays, along with Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. His other speciality, he said, is grilled steaks, and he hopes these will prove popular in the Isle.
The carvery serving times will be 4pm to 8pm on weekdays and noon to 7pm on Sundays. The main food menu will be served all day from Monday to Saturday. On Tuesdays, special steak nights will include two steaks and a bottle of wine for £20. Curry nights on Thursdays will be £6.95 to include a drink.
Quiz nights will feature in the pub as a new attraction, along with pool, darts and dominoes that will all continue as previously.
Food will be served from March 17, with children’s portions available on most choices.
Music nights will be presented from time to time, said Shaun, and the Rotary Club will still meet each Thursday.
