Bid to keep kids healthy
SCHOOLCHILDREN across the Dearne, Rotherham and Barnsley could be banned completely from leaving their schools at lunchtime, in a bid to make them more healthy.
Councils and primary care trusts in Rotherham and Barnsley have vowed to continue to campaign for secondary schools to adopt stay-on-site policies, that will prevent pupils from snacking on junk food they go out to buy for their afternoon breaks.
While the vast majority of senior schools already follow the guidance given, public health officials are keen to get the remaining few on board in the battle against childhood obesity.
The policies to improve health in teenagers also tackle issues such as smoking and anti-social behaviour.
