Bentley jewel robbery gang jailed for 17 years

Three men have been sentenced to a total of 17 years for an armed robbery at Sopers jewellery shop in Bentley, Doncaster, last February.
Police officers were called to the shop on Arksey Lane after shop assistant Thelma Dixon was threatened with a knife and had her wrists tied up before being forced to open the safes. Her husband, working next door, raised the alarm and police arrived to find three men escaping througha hole in the roof.
Approximately £320,000 worth of jewellery had been stolen but officers were able to apprehend the men a short time later and the jewellery was recovered nearby.
Graham Gallon, aged 25, received a six year sentence at Doncaster Crown Court and two brothers, Adam Marvell, 27, and Robert Marvell, 31, were each given five-and-a-half years. The men, all from Worksop, pleaded guilty to robbery and possessing a bladed article.
Three officers who caught them were also commended.
