A Lucky South Yorkshire pensioner is celebrating after a knock on his front door brought him an unexpected windfall.
Raymond Newsome was at his Barnsley home with his partner when he discovered that he had won £25,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.
The 74-year-old’s postcode had won him the lottery’s Saturday Street Prize.
Raymond was surprised with the cheque at his home by People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt.
Raymond, who signed up to the lottery six months ago, said: “I was so shocked when the cheque was pulled out of the envelope.
“I’ve never won anything in my life.”
Raymond has decided to treat his family as well as taking a trip with his partner.
“I’ve already bought some champagne to celebrate with,” he said.
“I have friends and family in Blackpool and Southend so we’ll take a trip.
“I’m sure I’ll enjoy spending the money.”
It is not just Raymond who has benefited from the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Players have raised £38.4 million for charities and good causes since it began.
The 5th Barnsley Scout group has received £10,000 worth of funding, which has been used to renovate the scout hall.
