A balloon release marked the official opening of Rotherham’s first primary sponsoring academy.

Pupils, staff and parents celebrated the re-branding of Rawmarsh Sandhill Primary School to Sandhill Primary Academy.

The academy has also formed the Sandhill Multi Academy Trust, which will allow it to offer support and work more closely with struggling primary schools in the borough.

Eileen Washington, chair of trustees, said: “After being involved with the school for 32 years, through bad times and good, I am certain that the success we have had in the last ten years will be built upon.”

Richard Chapman, executive head teacher, said: “I am very proud to be part of this move towards school on school support in Rotherham.”
