RESIDENTS are being asked to come together and help keep some of Doncaster’s most vulnerable elderly people safe.

This year’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, supported by Doncaster Council as well as other authorities, takes place on Friday.

Coun Patricia Schofield, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “Doncaster Council together with other relevant agencies take our role in protecting residents very seriously, but I want to stress that everyone has a role to play to keep our fellow residents safe.

“I’d urge anyone not to turn a blind eye if they suspect that someone is subject to abuse or neglect, or simply struggling to cope.

“You can make one phone call to raise your concerns so that the proper help can be offered – you can even do it anonymously if you wish.”

People are urged to report any concerns of pensioners being mis-treated to Doncaster’s Safeguarding Adults Partnership Board which is made up of authorities including the council, police, fire, NHS and St Leger Homes.

Incidents can be reported to the adult contact team 01302 737391 during normal working hours or on 01302 796000 out of hours.
