Doncaster people are among those around the region who are invited to take part in special events today, to honour the men and women of the Armed Forces.
Celebrations for National Armed Forces Day take place in Sir Nigel Gresley Square, Waterdale and will be jointly hosted by the Elected Mayor and Civic Mayor of Doncaster.
A parade leaves Sir Nigel Gresley Square at 9.50am along Waterdale; College Road; Duke Street; St Sepulchre Gate; High Street (with a salute to be take at Mansion House at 10am); Wood Street and back to Sir Nigel Gresley Square.
There will be a range of entertainment and activities for ages including live performances by various artists in Sir Nigel Gresley Square.
These will include exhibits from military support groups, veterans groups and organisations linked to Armed Forces in the one-stop-shop Civic Offices reception area.
There will also be opportunities to share memories with veterans from past wars and look at related displays and exhibits of war-time memorabilia.
At 1:20pm there will be an Open Air Service of Thanksgiving followed at 1:45pm by a Ceremony of Dismissal incorporating the last post and reveille. At 2pm the Armed Forces Day flag will be lowered as the event ends.
