Appeal after horse is found dead in canal

THE RSPCA is urging residents to come forward with information after a horse was found dumped in a canal.

The RSPCA confirmed it received reports regarding the tragic incident on Sunday afternoon.

The spokesman for the RSPCA said the circumstances surrounding the horses death are not yet clear but added: “We understand the horse’s body was removed by the fire service.

“But at this stage it is not know if the horse was dead or alive when it went in to the water.

“The RSPCA is making enquires regarding this incident, but at this stage no further information is available.”

A spokesman for the fire service said Doncaster and Edlington crews were sent to Clay Lane West, Clay Lane around 1.10pm on Sunday following reports of a horse being dumped.

Along with a technical rescue unit firefighters pulled the horse from the water.

Tragically the horse was already dead by the time officers arrived on the scene.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire police confirmed that officers attended the incident but said that a criminal investigation was not underway.
