Anger over missed rubbish collections

ANGRY residents have been left with overflowing bins after saying their rubbish collections have been missed for a month.
People living in Lakeside say rats are being attracted to the area and are fearful for children playing outside as mounds of rubbish mount up.
Taxpayers have complained to Doncaster Council claiming the authority has neglected them.
Dave Brough, of Lakeside Boulevard, said he felt he was living in ‘the slums’.
The 49-year-old said: “When I have visitors coming, I tell them to park around the front because it’s an absolute disgrace around the back, it’s degrading and very unsafe.
“We’re living in such a lovely area and are paying a lot of money in taxes to do so, but we’re just being ignored and it’s bringing the whole of Lakeside Boulevard down.
“There’s not enough bins for everyone in the first place, I think there’s only one recycling bin between 13 flats.”
Neighbour and railway worker John Daley, added: “There are young children playing out the back with litter all over the place, it’s unsafe and dangerous. There could be anything in those bags.
“There must be about 16 bins near to me that have been overflowing for the last few weeks.”
“I’m sure I’ve seen rats scuttling about around the rubbish too.
“I’ve contacted the council to do something about it but the bins have been sat there for about a month now, it’s not on.”
Following problems in Malham Tarn Court in the Boulevard regarding a lack of collections, Gill Gillies, assistant director of environment at the council, said they had records of regular fortnightly collections along the route.
She added: “The waste collection staff are authorised to collect waste which is contained within bins. No additional items or bags placed alongside bins will be collected. It is the responsibility of residents to dispose of additional items at one of the six household waste recycling centres which are provided by the council.
“We would urge residents to use the recycling services available which will reduce the amount of rubbish they need to place in black bins and reduces the amount which is sent to landfill sites.”
