AN increase in the number of foster carers in Doncaster could lead to a boost for the local jobs market is has been revealed.

Orange Grove Fostercare has seen such a rise in foster carers coming forward to meet the needs of vulnerable children they have now taken on larger office space near Lakeside.

Branch manager Michelle Monteiro said: “There is a reported 8,750 shortage of foster carers in the UK, with many young people needing local help.

“Our area people have understood this shortage and many have realised that they have the skills to be a foster carer. Some have been considering the vocation for a long time and decided to take the simple step of contacting us for more information.”

She added: “ The absolute intention is to increase jobs. With these new premises we’ve got a lot more room.

“There’s going to be a big push for more foster carers and this will go hand in hand with more administration staff and social workers.

“That’s the aim from now through until 2013.”

The Doncaster branch at White Rose Way is celebrating the new premises with an open day on Friday November 9, 11am-2pm.
