A BRAVE little girl battling a terminal illness is ticking off wishes she has made as part of a ‘bucket list’.

Abigail Cook, seven, has been diagnosed with Batten Disease - a rare genetic condition in which she experiences seizures and dementia-like symptoms. Doctors have also told her she will eventually lose her sight and mobility and may not live past the age of 14.

Abigail, who is just one in 200 children in the UK struck by the disease, has decided to come up with a bucket list of things she wants to achieve in the meantime.

The Warmsworth youngster’s ultimate wish is to swim with dolphins in Orlando, Florida, costing £7,000 for a family trip with 35-year-old mum Lindsey, dad Martin, 44, and 11-year-old brother Oliver.

So far, Abigail has ticked off a number of wishes including dying her hair pink and taking a family holiday to Tenerife because that is the last holiday she remembers.

Mum Lindsey, of Low West Road, Warmsworth, said: “Abigail absolutely loved the holiday, she had a fantastic time, we all did.”

The community has also rallied around for the Warmsworth Primary School pupil, including Olympian Sarah Stevenson MBE, to help raise funds for her dolphin dream.

Helping push the fundraising pot past the £6,000 mark was the Balby-based Arabesque School of Dance, where Abigail used to dance, which raised £935 following a sponsored silence dance event.

Another of Abigail’s wishes includes a fancy dress party which will be held next month.
