A BRAVE little girl with an incurable disease looks set to finally see her dream to swim with dolphins in America come true.

Abigail Cook, seven, from Warmsworth has been diagnosed with Batten Disease, a very rare terminal condition which in time could lead to her losing her mobility and sight.

When doctors gave Abigail and her family the devastating news that she may not live to see her 14th birthday, the courageous youngster set up a bucket list of things she wanted to achieve and put swimming with dolphins in Orlando, Florida at the top of the list.

Thanks to fund-raising efforts from people all over the region, the Abigail Cook Wishlist hit the £10,000 target needed to pay for the trip last month, and Abigail and her family will be making the two-week long trip to Florida next month.

Dad Martin Cook, 44, said the family was grateful to everyone who had helped raise the money to make Abigail’s dream of swimming with dolphins come true.

Ahead of her trip next month little Abigail was overjoyed to receive a surprise package from SeaWorld, Orlando which included a SeaWorld bum-bag, dolphin travel pillow and cuddly penguin toy.

Martin, of Low West Road, said: “Christmas was a difficult time for the family because we just don’t know if she’ll get to see another one.

“So the news that we’ll get to make the trip to Orlando so soon has come at a good time”

The family received another devastating blow earlier this month when they were told Abigail’s health was deteriorating faster than expected at an appointment with her neurologist at the Ryegate Children’s Centre in Sheffield,

Despite the bad news, Martin said he, Abigail’s mum Lindsey, 35, and her big brother Oliver, 11, were going to try and stay positive for Abigail and make sure their trip to Florida was the best family holiday ever.

Abigail still has other wishes she wants to make come true like taking a family holiday to Tenerife because that’s the last family holiday she remembers.

Fund-raising efforts for Abigail’s Wishlist continue with staff and gym members from Fitness Flex in High Fishergate taking part in a bike-athon where they will ride the equivalent distance from Doncaster to London and back on January 26.
