To welcome the riders home, organisers will be hosting a Family Fun Day between noon and 6pm at Doncaster Deaf Trust on Leger Way.

“The support we have had has been incredible and non-riders were asking how they could support those taking part and participate themselves,” commented Sarah White co-organiser. “The idea of a Family Fun Day was borne and we are proud to announce a fantastic line up including static bike challenges, live music, balance bikes, fairground rides, food and drink, zip wire, archery, Music Bugs and craft activities.”

Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust are supplying static bikes for people to ride a small part of the route whilst watching Go-Pro footage on a big screen, whilst younger members of the family can enjoy balance bikes and bike related activates courtesy of Doncaster’s Mini Wheelers.

The cycles rides will see a group of professional and skilled cyclists tackle some of the most difficult terrain in the county including Holme Moss and a climb of 11,000 feet during the 110 mile ride whilst a group of novices and experienced cyclists will tackle a 54 mile route which, whilst largely flat terrain, still requires stamina.

“Sponsorship support from local businesses and some of the largest brands in the UK has been phenomenal with water supplied by Tesco and fruit and snacks by CostCo to keep our riders nourished and hydrated on the rides,” said Emily co-organiser. “In addition, several local businesses have pledged prizes for our raffle, donated their services for free and sponsored our two caravans supplied by Yorkshire Caravans.”

Sarah concluded; “A handful of the smaller sponsorship opportunities remain but we really now urge the family and friends of our riders and the people of Doncaster to get behind this fantastic local event raising money for one of the most intrinsic charities in our community, Firefly.”
