Kids told: Pick up a book

YOUNGSTERS aged eight to ten are being encouraged to discover the joys of reading at a new book group.

Staff at Swinton Library would like to hear from any school kids who would like to join their Chatterbooks Group.

Principal Library Assistant Rita Leary said: “We already have a book group for adults but we would like to try and get more young people involved in reading.

“Through participation in the groups, children are encouraged to enjoy reading for its own sake and to share their enthusiasm and inspiration with other children, their parents and carers.

“At the same time they will get to know more about their public library and all it has to offer.

“We have not set a day to start the group yet because we want to see how much interest there is first.”

Chatterbooks groups are a well established movement, and are already inplace at libraries across the UK.

Anyone who would like to join the group is asked to contact Swinton Library on 01709 583116.
