Keep workers safe, HSE warns bosses

SIX people lost their lives while at work in South Yorkshire last year and over 620 suffered major injury.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) issued fresh warnings about workplace safety after a rise in the number of deaths in the UK.

Employers are urged to make the safety of workers their top priority for 2012, and are reminded of their legal responsibility to ensure lives are not put at risk.

A total of 171 people were killed at work in Britain last year, compared to 147 deaths the previous year. And 24,700 workers also suffered a major injury in the past 12 months.

In Yorkshire and the Humber there were 24 deaths and 2,609 major injuries.
