RESIDENTS at Swinton Lodge care home toasted The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with an afternoon tea party.

Staff laid on three celebration events in each of the facility’s three wings, aptly named Spencer, Balmoral and Windsor.

Described as ‘indoor street parties’, residents enjoyed tea, coffee and cakes.

They also got into the swing of things by wearing party hats in rooms which were decked out in red, white and blue bunting.

Kitchen staff had also prepared a special menu for the residents, which included English only ingredients and some of the nation’s favourite dishes.

Staff nurse Bev Bellamy said: “Everyone really enjoyed it. We tried to go with an indoor street party theme and it really worked.

“Many of our residents are supporters of the royal family and they were very excited by all of the celebrations.

“Some of them can even remember The Queen’s coronation.”
