SIX-year-old swimmer Jonathon Thurston has struck out for his gran – and a leading health charity.
The Wombwell tot (pictured) and his dad, David, 34, are fundraising for Diabetes UK, after watching Jonathon’s gran, Wendy, suffer from Type One diabetes all her life.
Jonathon has already smashed his swimming challenge of 800m, and David will join a Swim for All event on July 10.
Wendy, 73, was diagnosed as a diabetic as a teenager.
Jonathon’s mum, Sarah, said: “The past year has been really tough for mum. Jonathon was determined to do the Swim for All but he was too young so he set himself his own challenge.
“I am so proud of him and my husband”.
Diabetes UK fundraising manager, Ann Rowe, said: “Congratulations to Jonathon and the best of luck to David.
“The funds they raise will go a long way in helping us continue to fund research into finding a cure”.
