TOP results have been achieved at an Isle primary school, leading to recognition from a senior cabinet minister.

The Minister of State for schools, David Laws MP, has written to the Luddington and Garthorpe school near Epworth to congratulate it on achieving 100 percent in pass rates for the key stage two tests.

Mr Laws said: “I would like to congratulate all staff, governors and pupils for their hard work and success and to thank the head for the leadership in continuing the drive towards the highest standards of educational achievement.”

Luddington and Garthorpe headmistress Elizabeth Farrar said receiving the letter of recognition from Mr Laws was a nice surprise, and everyone at the school was “really, really pleased” with the results.

She said: “It was all down to the hard work and commitment of both the children and the staff.
“Another thing we are particularly happy with is the fact that each child in year six improved by at least two skill levels at the key stage two tests, which shows just how high the level of teaching is.”

Last year’s year six class only consisted of six children so each child’s mark counted for just over 16 percent of the overall result.

Mrs Farrar added that while the school and its staff were proud of their achievements they would not be complacent about this year’s results and would be doing everything they could to ensure the children due to sit their exams this summer had the best possible shot at their key stage two tests.
She added: “Last year’s success has shown us what hard work can do, so this year’s year six children are ready and motivated to do their absolute best and we’ll be here to help them.”
