AN Isle school is set to be transformed with a £250,000 extension.

Builders are expected to move on site in the next few weeks at Althorpe and Keadby Primary, for a scheme which will see new resource rooms, staff rooms and meeting rooms constructed.

The new space is expected to be used for meetings, and will also be available for community use, said chairman of the governors at the school, Richard Podmore. The extension should be completed by Easter 2013.

Goole and Brigg MP Andrew Percy visited the school this week to see the plans.

He said: “The management offices are going to be something for the school to be very proud of.

“The resource rooms which are built will mean we are able to stage large meetings of the full staff.

“At the moment we have a local charity that meets at the school, and has to use one of the classroom, sitting on the small, child sized chairs, this will mean they can use a proper meeting room. We have staff meetings where people have to sit on counters and cabinets. This should change that.”

He said the school had seen virtually no changes to the building since it was first built in the 1970s.

He believes the alterations will see major benefits to everyone at the school from children who will be able to have school council meetings in the new buildings, to the governors and staff.

North Lincolnshire Councillor Rob Waltham also visited the school to see the plans.
