The 3rd – 9th August is International Assistance Dogs Week, which aims to recognise and honour the incredible work undertaken by assistance dogs and their trainers.
National pet store company, Pets Corner, is working with the charity Canine Partners to increase both funds and awareness for these wonderfully skilled animals, their devoted trainers and the people whose lives they transform.
Pets Corner donates the majority of their charitable income to Canine Partners, as well as gifting 10p from the sale of every Eco-bag ‘bag for life’ sold in store.
Canine Partners trains assistance dogs to help people with disabilities deal with the demands of daily life. Cat Harvey, Corporate Manager, explains more:
“People are amazed when they hear what our assistance dogs can do. As well as being a canine companion, they are also trained to load and unload the washing machine, hand money to a cashier at the supermarket, help someone get dressed and undressed and even raise the alarm in an emergency. We train dogs to help people with the most complex of conditions, including members of the Armed Forces.”
Dean Richmond, Managing Director of Pets Corner, adds:
“We hope that through the income we generate for the charity, Canine Partners can grow and provide more assistance dogs for those who need them.
