Doncaster war hero Ben Parkinson is due represent his regiment at a service today to remember those who lost their lives in Afghanistan.
He was selected attend the Operation Herrick Remembrance Service at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The service is to commemorate all fallen servicemen and women from 2003 and onwards.
He said: “There are other services up and down the country but of course the one in London is the big one and the one that everyone will hear about.
“Some families aren’t going because it will be too painful for them, and some people are worried that this will be seen as THE END for Afghanistan, and that people will start to forget.
“For those of us who were there, and our families, that will never happen.”
Ben suffered serious injuries serving in Afghanistan.
Two Doncaster soldiers lost their lives during the campaign in Afghanistan. They were Rifleman Liam Maughan, 18, from Hatfield, of 3rd Battalion, The Rifles; and Sergeant Lee Paul Davidson, 32, from Thorne, of The Light Dragoons.
