Town raises cash for sick man and tot

A FUNDRAISER for a sick tot takes place on Monday (May 30) – with world champ pool and darts players showing their skills.

Mexborough’s Falcon Hotel will host the evening, in aid of brain tumour tot Ebonie Webb, of Barnsley. Three-year-old Ebonie’s family are raising cash to take her to America for vital treatment.

Anthea Milnes and Stephen Bennett – himself a former world class pool player – will also run a bumper raffle on the night.

Chris Melling, Daz Johnson and Dennis Priestley will entertain.

A MEXBOROUGH woman is raising cash for her cancer-stricken uncle who is being refused treatment on the NHS.

David Wilson, 56, is suffering from bowel cancer and his consultants want to give him the drug Sirtex before the disease spreads to his liver.

But in his hometown of Oundle in Northamptonshire, Sirtex is only available privately. If he lived just 5 miles down the road in Cambridgeshire, he would get it free on the NHS.

His niece Beverley Pendlebury has now organised a karaoke fundraiser to take place at the Bull’s Head pub on Mexborough High Street from 2pm on Wednesday, June 1.

She said: “If he lived just a few miles down the road he would be able to get this drug, which would prolong his life.

“He has got a lot of family in this area and I want to raise some money to help him pay for the treatment he is having now. We would appreciate any help so please come along to the fundraiser.”
