Stop smoking New Year’s resolution campaign

Residents are being encouraged to stub out the cigarette as part of a New Year’s resolution campaign.

It comes as part of Public Health England’s new campaign to raise awareness of the harm smoking does to the whole body.

Smoking remains the biggest cause of premature deaths in the country – almost 80,000 a year – and one in two long-term smokers will die from a smoking related disease.

Although many know the damage it does to their heart and lungs, smokers are much less likely to be aware of how harmful it is to other parts of the body, including bones, muscles, brain, teeth and eyes.
