THIS will be the scene to welcome patients visiting Doncaster Royal Infirmary for day surgery after the completion of the latest refurbishment project at the hospital.
Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the DRI, has given its old Theatre Admissions Unit a facelift and transformed it into what bosses at the hospital describe as a light and modern space.
They are hoping the work will help to relieve any anxiety patients feel when they come into hospital for an operation.
Sister Stephanie Mozley, who manages the unit, said: “The unit is designed to reduce the worry for patients and give them a tranquil environment in which to prepare for their operations.”
The refurbished unit is part of a bigger building project and a new day surgery unit will open this summer.
The unit, which will have its own entrance, currently has four assessment rooms and this will increase to six when the unit is completed in the next few months.
There are separate waiting rooms for male and female patients who have changed out of their clothes in readiness for theatre.
