CHILDREN, young people and their families will be able to have a say about the service they are receiving from a local health trust via the latest technology.

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) has just received a £120,000 boost from the Department of Health to buy iPads for children, young people and their families to use and portable devices for clinicians.

The iPads will be used to help monitor the progress of children and young people who access the children and young people’s mental health services in Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. In Rotherham RDaSH works in partnership with the voluntary sector provider Rotherham and Barnsley Mind to deliver the service.

The technology will also allow children, young and their families to generally comment on the service they are receiving.

Claire Strachan, project manager for RDaSH, said: “This technology will mean that families can have timely and private access to a hand held device to complete service evaluations. This feedback helps us to improve and shape the services that we offer. We will see an iPad in each therapy room in our children and young people’s mental health services.

“We will also be making iPads available for community use so that children, young and their families can comment on their progress from home. This will enable clinicians to review the impact of treatment in partnership with service users in real time and make the necessary changes.

“We hope that children, young people and their families will embrace the opportunity to provide feedback via these devices,” added Claire.
