Consultation over ambulance service shake-up ends

A PUBLIC consultation on plans to axe dozens of ambulance stations across the region has come to an end.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) spent three months asking people to share their views on proposals to close nearly all of the area’s 66 stations, including ones in Scunthorpe and Gainsborough.

They would be replaced with 13 hub bases and the nearest to the Isle would be around 22 miles away at Elsham, North Lincolnshire.

Epworth Town councillors had raised concerns that lives would be put at risk, but EMAS stressed the new set up would allow it to reach calls sooner.

The service has a target of reaching 75 per cent of all life threatening emergency calls within eight minutes.

The consultation formally ended on December 17 and a spokesman for EMAS said all feedback would be fully reviewed at a board meeting on January 10.

Board members are expected to make a final decision on the proposal at a further meeting to be held on January 28.
