About a third of Doncaster residents do not get enough exercise, according to a new survey.
A report by UK Active found 32 per cent of people in Doncaster are classed as inactive.
The figures were compiled through the completion of surveys and by speaking to firms which deliver health schemes in the town.
UK Active member Darren Padget said the government should put more funding into healthy living schemes.
He said: “Public health funding still focuses on sexual health, anti-smoking and alcohol abuse, rather than tackling obesity. This is a sitting time bomb, as inactivity is responsible for one in six deaths in the UK and a major factor in heart disease, type 2 diabetes and hypertension.”
