STAFF, pupils and parents at a Wombwell school had special reason to stage their own Race for Life last week.

Three staff members of Park Street Primary are currently fighting cancer, and last Wednesday’s event was their school’s way of showing how much they care.

Wearing official Race for Life tee-shirts, staff joined pink or tutu-clad pupils on the school field in their bid to raise a stack of cash for Cancer Research.

Organiser Ann Oughton said: “Last year we did the Race for Life at Rotherham, but this year the run was triggered by the fact that we have several colleagues with cancer, and wanted to show our support.”

Sixty nursery pupils kicked the afternoon off with their parents, and were followed by about 230 others.

“It was fantastic, and many parents have said they would like to do the same next year,” added Mrs Oughton.
