ROCKETING petrol prices have fuelled a boom in Conisbrough... for 60s-style mopeds, from China!
And the Mod machines are just flying out of a town showroom, after being introduced two weeks ago.
Mike and Dave Key – of Mike’s DIY and Conisbrough Cycles on Old Road – are amazed at the mass take-up of their new, rainbow coloured, 50cc Lexmotos that are imported from China.
Capable of up to 140 miles per gallon, they can be ridden immediately by any driver with a licence since 2001.
Dave, 31, said he had a “Eureka moment” while caught in a Manchester traffic jam, as he jealously watched scooters zip past.
He checked out the market and fell for Lexmoto and Baotian models, believing others would be similarly impressed. And he’s even claimed a little black number for himself.
Said Mike: “They’re cheerful and money saving and appeal to everyone. We’re delighted with them”.
