Ray Nortrop outside the St James Pool and Health Club, in Waterdale.
THE funeral for former DJ and council campaigner Ray Nortrop is to take place later this month.
Mr Nortrop, 68, was found dead at his home in Askrigg Close, Cantley, on December 22 by concerned neigbours.
He was a well-known face around Doncaster, making his name in the 1960s after landing the job as DJ at the Top Rank club in Silver Street after being personally put forward for the job by now disgraced media personality Jimmy Savile after the pair met at a wrestling match.
In later years, he became an avid critic of Doncaster Council and spearheaded a number of campaigns to save the town’s landmark buildings including the Grand Theatre.
A service followed by burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery from 10am on January 24.
