Funding request

ONE of two parish councils which have each been requested to give East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) £5,000 for the removal of two metal footbridges over the B1230 has refused to pay out of its own funds.

A Gilberdyke Parish Council spokesman said: “If we can use LEADER [rural development] funding to cover the £5,000 then Gilberdyke has no objection to the bridge/(s) being removed but if the money has to come out of the parish council’s budget then the bridge in Gilberdyke will have to remain until further funding is available.”

The other bridge is in Newport, whose parish council has received the same ERYC request.
