A FIRST Community Fun Day at the Dearne ALC proved a big hit.
Despite disappointing weather on the day, people flocked to the school to enjoy a feast of entertainment, stalls, rides and sport, whle munching on hog roast sandwiches and other refreshments.
For the more daring there was the thrill of ‘water zorbing’ and while a reenactment group staged their own small battle for interested onlookers, anyone with a yen for archery could have a go under expert instruction.
School bands entertained inside in the hall - and one young rock group even got a booking after giving a great performance.
Director of personnel Richard Wordsworth said: “The idea of the whole event was to open up the building, invite the community in and let everyone enjoy the facilities here on a relaxed occasion.
“It wasn’t the best day, weather-wise, but we still attracted a good turnout and are likely to do a similar thing again in the future.”
