THE former mayor of a Doncaster town has died at the age of 57.

John Hardy, the ex-mayor of Askern and district councillor who suffered from the polio illness, died in hospital.

Husband to Jayne, Mr Hardy was also a Doncaster Council cabinet member for Older people as well as being an Askern Town councillor.

Mr Hardy, who died on May 9, was described as “a special man who will be sadly missed”.

The funeral is due to take on May 28 at Pontefract Crematorium at 2.40pm.

People have been asked to wear blue.

Donations will also be given to the RSPCA.
