A ‘phenomenal’ £15,000 was raised at a charity football match featuring the talents of ex Premier League and Doncaster Rovers players.

The match at Keepmoat Stadium saw former football legends and special guests take on a team of charity fundraisers for Eve’s Trust - which raises funds for terminally or seriously ill cancer patients in Doncaster.

The final score was 11-5 to the legends, with former Aston Villa and England midfielder Lee Hendrie scooping man of the match.

Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of Doncaster Rovers FC said: “We are pleased that this event has raised so much money for such a worthy charity. Being a part of the local community is really important to us.”

Eve’s Trust founder Martin Lawrence, who set up the cause after his mother’s death in 2011, said: “This was a fantastic event and I want to thank everyone who was involved in making it possible. Final figures are not in yet but we know that we’ve made in excess of £15,000 which is just phenomenal from a single event.”
