DARFIELD landlady Racheal Jeakins is a flipp-er-ing fantastic fundraiser!
And after ROLLER skating round Wombwell in the worst of the winter’s snow, intrepid Rachel is donning FLIPPERS and GOGGLES... for a 12-mile-plus “scuba stroll”!
The 39-year-old, who runs the Queen Victoria, will flipper her way all the way from the village to Stairfoot and back on a huge circular route – in full wet suit.
Her zany range of stunts and pub activities have already raised over £12,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
She has previously swum the equivalent of the English Channel, completed a 12-hour static bike ride in the pub and – somehow – managed a 24-hour sponsored silence!
Her six-mile “skateathon”, on rollers, put her to the test in the worst of the ice and snow in December... but for the 12.2-mile scuba stroll, she’s definitely praying for a cool day.
Racheal’s self-inflicted trials are a real challenge – not least because she has a congenital condition, of both knees.
She laughed: “At least I’m used to pain... I find a hot bath and rest helps you to get over most things”.
Racheal’s ‘flipperthon’, on May 14, will take her to Saltersbrook, Ardsley and Stairfoot, then back through Wombwell to Park Street and on to the bypass before heading back to Darfield and home.
