Firefighters feel the heat at burning curry house

AN INDIAN restaurant was badly damaged by a fierce fire which broke out in the early hours of yesterday.

Muskaan Indian Cuisine on Corporation Street, Rotherham, was found alight at 4.20am. When firefighters entered the burning building they found flames on the first floor, which had spread and were shooting out of the roof.

Incident commander Neil Baugh said firefighters extinguished the flames from inside, preventing the blaze spreading to neighbouring buildings.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been mounted.

Mr Baugh said: “When firefighters arrived they found the fire had vented through the roof at one side and the roof space was involved, which made it very difficult for us to attack. But we quickly got additional resources and gained entry. Two teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered from both sides of the building and went up on to the first floor to attack the fire from inside.”
