Residents gathered in Mexborough to enjoy a day of festive fun - despite the absence of Christmas illuminations.

Organisers pulled the plug on the annual lights due to funding cuts, but shoppers were determined to not let this dampen their spirits at the Mexborough Christmas Bash last Saturday.

In place of the lights switch-on there was a procession down the High Street, led by Father Christmas and his donkeys.

Councillor Sue Phillips said: “Despite the lights situation, everyone seemed to have a smile on their face, which was nice to see.”

Youngsters also enjoyed a range of fairground rides, while bands and dancers from Kidz Du Care performed on a stage. School pupils also created a nativity scene in the High Street Tesco supermarket and the crowds enjoyed a demonstration of American wrestling.
