Family flees burning home

A FAMILY had to flee their home in the middle of the night when their kitchen caught fire.

The couple and their two-year-old child were alerted when smoke started bellowing from their fridge freezer at their home on Terrace Road, Parkgate.

They managed to get out of the house unharmed and called South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service at 12.25am early this monring, Thursday.

Two crews from Rotherham Fire Station attended and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus spent 45 minutes tackling the blaze.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “The fire caused smoke damage to the kitchen but did not spread.

“It is not known what caused the fire but it is believed to be accidental.

“All three occupants were unharmed but they were taken to hospital for a check up as a precaution.”
