A bride has tied the knot with her new husband on the same day as her grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary and his parents’ 39th.

Holly Lunney married Steven Murphy on Saturday, July 27, in the same church as her grandparents wed 50 years ago to the day.

Her grandmother, Carole Wragg, 68, said it was a lovely way for her and her husband Sidney, 74, to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

“It wasn’t planned, it just happened to be on that date, but I’m quite chuffed about it to be honest,” said Carole, of Queen Elizabeth Court, Thorne.

“It’s just nice that our grand-daughter is getting married on our wedding anniversary. A lot of people have said to me that it’s lovely our granddaughter is getting married in the same church.

“And my husband gave her away, which made it even more special.”

An extra coincidence was that Steven’s parents, Sherburn-in-Elmet couple Christine and Stuart Murphy, both 61, were celebrating 39 years of marriage on the same day.

The Stainforth newlyweds, who have a three-year-old daughter, Scarlett, married in St Nicholas’ Church, Thorne.
