SCOTTISH folk singer and broadcaster Jimmie Macgregor teamed up with the Isle of Axholme Lions to present Jimmie MacGregor’s Gathering of Songs, Stories and Famous Folk at Haxey Memorial Hall.

Lions president James Mackinlay said that Jimmie has been a family friend since the 1960s so asked him if he would be able to bring his “gathering” to the Isle from Glasgow.

James said: “We were absolutely delighted that Jimmie came down to the Isle to treat us with his show and so privileged that he has given up his time so soon after performing in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

“I have known Jimmie for many years and he gave us an outstanding performance which amused, enlightened and thoroughly entertained us all. His stories, fables, songs, folk ditties and Glaswegian sense of humour completely enthralled the packed hall. None of this would have been possible without the help from my sister Liz Mackinlay, who brought Jimmie down from Glasgow and masterminded his background picture show.”

The event raised over £1,500 for Bluebell Wood Hospice.
