A BUMPER celebration weekend is planned at Bolton - at a church that is on borrowed time.

They are gathering photos and memorabilia now, prior to the special weekend of May 18, 19 and 20 that includes Saturday as an open day for chat and browsing.

The church hall next door, that is already a community hub, will become the new church.

A loan from the local Methodist Circuit will enable refurbishment and the purchase of new furniture.

Church member Joyce Kilner said the upkeep of the 181 year-old building is too costly to maintain, and its congregation are now resigned to working hard to make the new arrangements work.

The planned weekend is a ‘last hurrah’ for the imposing building that was built by local people for local people, she explained.

Anyone who has items to add to the displays should contact Pastor Jonathan Hood tel. 01709 578453.
