Yo-ho-ho and a load of fun

Children and young people from Heatherwood School on Leger Way, Doncaster, have spent six days of the summer holidays building a pirate ship, walking the plank and finding treasure at their Sumwood summer club.

Sumwood has been jointly funded by Friends of Heatherwood and the school to provide the pirate-themed activities for 19 young people.

The project has cost around £5,000 for six days of jam-packed fun entertainment for the children and young people.

Most of the money spent is on workers, as the young people need high staffing ratios to be fully supported each day they attend.

Friends of Heatherwood pledged to raise half of the projected costs throughout the academic year towards the popular summer club.

Parents have also made a contribution towards the cost, as most feel it is worthwhile to enable them to have a break while their child is having fun with staff that know them well.

Parents will be invited to attend a final performance tomorrow to see the hard work of the children and staff.
