A Dearne school that required improvement has received a glowing Ofsted report.

Education inspectors raised concerns about management, pupil achievement and quality of teaching at Wath Saint Pius X Catholic High School in 2012.

They rated the school as ‘3 - Requires Improvement’, the second lowest possible.

However, inspectors gave the school an overall ‘2 - Good’ rating in September, the second highest possible.

Inspector Helen Gaunt praised the school for making improvements in key areas, such as leadership, pupil behaviour and achievement, along with quality of teaching.

Headteacher Tony Bishop, pictured above with some of the student council, said: “Saint Pius is a really good place to be and the outcome of the inspection confirms this. Students and staff have worked really hard.”
